DIY Halloween Costumes Your Kids Will Love

For kids, the BEST part of Halloween is deciding what they want to be this year. They often go the entire year talking about what costume they want! They usually do not meet the expectations. Kids’ imaginations are limitless and creative, but costumes stores can sometimes fall flat. Before you run off in a panic and empty your wallet at some costume store, consider what you have buried in the attic or stashed away in your garage that might make a great DIY costume.

Simple But Effective

Wednesday Addams, Harry Potter, RBG, Princess Leia… What do these people all have in common? They wear EASY and simple clothes. That means that you can grab a couple of pieces from your kid’s existing wardrobe and maybe buy one of two things off Amazon or do a quick Target drive-up.

Wednesday ADDAMS

A Halloween classic, Wednesday, is really rather easy to capture!

  1. A long sleeve black dress like this one from Target
  2. A long sleeve white shirt with a collar, here’s one from Zara that won’t break the bank
  3. Some cute braids

Sometimes, The Prop is the Star

Trick-or-treating with kids can be challenging. Sometimes they are too young to walk, and you need to have them in a stroller or baby carrier, and then no one seems to notice the cute costume. Some kids need more gear with them for a variety of reasons! We say, go with it! If you need the stroller, carrier, or extra items, then make it the focal point. Here’s a couple of our past faves from our #joovyboo Halloween Costume Contest in 2019!

Non-Character Looks

Costumes don’t always have to be characters! Here are some fun and easy ideas for costumes that only involve four items! Little kids will have just as much fun going as something fun and silly!

Balloons!!

Who doesn’t have a mix and match of leftover balloons from birthday parties?? Let’s put those to good use this Halloween! These cute costumes only need; leggings, a t-shirt, some string, and balloons.

Fun Food Items

All you need is a nice tan/brown swaddle, a red and green blanket, and a onesie! If you have a very young baby and you want to keep them bundled up, incorporate that! Everyone loves a baby burrito, and honestly when are you ever going to be able to do this again??
