So you keep hearing about this outdoor group for families and have decided to take the plunge and sign up. Or maybe you have been a member of your local branch’s Facebook group for a while, but you haven’t quite taken the next step to becoming a member of our organization yet. Either way, we are glad that you found us, and we are here to help you decide if Hike it Baby is a good fit for your family (and we really think it will be!).

Here at Hike it Baby, our mission is to connect families with babies and young children to the outdoors and each other. We pride ourselves on striving to be an inclusive, judgment-free organization that focuses on raising a generation to love the outdoors. We are so confident that your family will fit right in and feel welcomed in our Hike it Baby community that we offer a 90-day free trial membership so you can give us a try and see for yourself what we are all about. We want you to make the most of your trial membership, so we compiled this list of tips to help you explore our organization in those first 3 months:

Hiking with Family

1) Join The Facebook Group For Your Local Branch

If you haven’t already done so, we encourage you to join the Facebook group for your local branch(s). You will find tons of information for scheduled hikes coming up, hiking tips, fun articles, and more. This is also a great place to ask questions and introduce yourself to the community.

2) Reach Out To The Branch Ambassadors

Each Hike it Baby Branch Ambassador has undergone training and can help answer any questions you may have regarding the organization, upcoming events, hiking trails, etc. (or point you in the right direction).

3) Check The Family Trail Guide

Not sure if an upcoming hike will be suitable for your family or just looking to gain more information about a trail? Check out the Family Trail Guide! This online resource helps families with children source trails that little legs can hike and parents can feel comfortable with. Many of the trails you find on the schedule can also be found in the Family Trail Guide along with photos so you can get an idea of what to expect on an upcoming hike.

4) Join With A Friend Or Family Member

Signing up with a friend can help keep you both accountable for getting out on a hike. It’s always nice to see a familiar face when trying something new! That being said, many of our members meet some of their closest friends through Hike it Baby, so don’t be afraid to join solo!

5) Consider The Season

If you live in an area that experiences harsh weather, such as a bitter winter or a scorching summer, you may want to consider signing up when the branch is likely to be more active and have more events scheduled. With spring right around the corner in most areas, now is the perfect time to join!

6) And Most Importantly…GET OUT THERE!

The best way to figure out if Hike it Baby is right for you is to attend an event! Most branches host a variety of events ranging from kid-led hikes to park and plays to adult-paced treks and more. Trying different types of events can help you discover what works best for you. Also, you can try different days and/or times to see what fits in best with your schedule. You never know, you may start off thinking you would never prefer a night hike until you attend your first glow-stick walk and get hooked!

Join a community of like-minded parents and caregivers with a shared mission of connecting families with babies and young children to the outdoors and each other. Start your free 90-day membership trial today!
