I love finding ways to encourage families to get in the kitchen together, and summer is the perfect time for that. Whether you’re staying in to build forts, watch movies and play games, having a backyard picnic, out by the pool, or heading on a long road trip family vacation, there are a few fun and easy recipes that you can make as a family where everyone can get involved — even your littles!

Easy Snacks that Kids Love!
The beauty of these recipes is that they don’t involve a ton of ingredients, and you can, for the most part, use what you already have on hand, and your kids get to “choose their own adventure” each time based on what they feel like in that moment. If you have food intolerances or food allergies in your family, just find similar items such as a dairy-free yogurt instead of regular yogurt – and gluten-free or nut-free options for pretzels or any other ingredients listed below.
Trail Mix Snack
Having a movie night at home? Headed on a long road trip with the family or a day at the park? Maybe you have a family game night planned. Grab some bowls and fill them up with ingredients such as pretzels, marshmallows, chocolate candies, nuts, gummy bears, etc. Lay them all out and let your kiddos make their own trail mix in a baggie or their own little dish to hold. This is a great tip the next time you go to the movies.
Fun Watermelon Pizza
You’ll need a nice juicy watermelon for this recipe, along with some yogurt of choice (flavored or plain) and your favorite toppings like berries, granola, chocolate chips, and even sprinkles. Make it dairy-free with some dairy-free yogurt.
Slice a watermelon into a large round disk. Depending on the size of your watermelon, you may only get a few rounds from it. Place the watermelon round on a cutting board and spread some yogurt on top, covering all the red parts of your watermelon. Sprinkle with berries, granola, chocolate chips, and anything else you’d like. Carefully cut into “pizza” slices and enjoy immediately.
Easy and Healthy Yogurt Freezer Bark
Need a healthy snack that only has a few ingredients AND that your kiddos can create on their own? This yogurt bark is a great option, and it has no added sugar (unless you add a little bit of sprinkles), is gluten-free, and can be made vegan/dairy-free!
Line a baking sheet or plate (depending on how much you want to make) with parchment paper. Spread yogurt across it to create a thin, even layer. Sprinkle berries, granola, sprinkles, and anything else you’d like. Everyone can “decorate” their own.
Pop it in the freezer for about 2-3 hours, then break it into pieces. Keep any extras in a freezer-safe bag.
