Cocktail and Mocktail Recipes to Sparkle your Fourth of July
Summer is here, and I know that a cold refreshing beverage on a hot summer day, whether it be one for you or one for your kids, is something that we look forward to as soon as the temperatures start to rise. I like to make frozen treats any chance I can get! This Texas heat is no joke; throw in a holiday, and it’s even more of a reason to make yourself and your children a festive party drink! My daughter’s birthday is two days after the 4th, so we always do something fun!

Mocktail For the Kids
For the kids, I decided to make a nice cold slushie drink that would be easy to whip up and that I know they’ll love! I start by putting a can of frozen lemonade concentrate in the blender; I add 2 cups of water and 3 cups of ice using that same cup. Give it a good blend until you have the right consistency. If it’s too watery, add more ice. Too thick? Add a little more water until the desired texture. Grenadine will be your best friend for these holiday cocktails; whether you make your own or it’s store-bought, either will work!
Want to make your own grenadine? It’s easier than you think. Boil 1 cup sugar and 1 cup of pomegranate juice, let cool, and bottle up.
Now, put your homemade or store-bought grenadine into the bottom of a small glass, and pour in the frozen lemonade. I top it off with blue razzberry pop rocks for that extra something! A perfect touch for the kids.

Cocktail For the Grownups
Now for the grownup cocktail, it doesn’t have to be anything with a bunch of different ingredients. I always like to say bartending isn’t rocket science, and it’s a lot of trial and error and creativity. We’re going to use the same frozen lemonade for the base of our cocktail, but instead of the two cups of water, it’s just one and one cup of citron vodka. Cîroc summer citrus or Absolut Citron are great choices to try out this summer! In a hurricane glass, add your grenadine to the bottom, and add your boozy slushie mixture, but this time, only fill your glass 3/4ths of the way, leaving some room at the top of the glass. For the last step, mix .5 oz of blue Curaçao and .5 oz of vodka and gently add to the top so it floats. It gives you the perfect layered frozen treat to make the hot summer days not so hot!
I also grabbed some cherry packs of pop rocks to incorporate into the adults’ drinks as well! Prep the glasses by adding light corn syrup on one plate and on another plate a mixture of both colored pop rocks. Before serving, roll the glasses on their sides into the syrup and dip them into the pop rocks.
Patriotic Adult Slushy
Ingredients
- 1 oz Grenadine
- 1 can Frozen lemonade
- 1 cup Water
- 1 cup Citron vodka
- 3 cups Ice
- .5 oz Blue Curaçao
- Light corn syrup
- Cherry and Blue Razz Pop Rocks
Instructions
- In a blender mix frozen lemonade, ice, water and vodka.
- Dip a hurricane glass in light corn syrup and then into a mixture of both pop rocks.
- Add grenadine to bottom of glass, fill with boozy lemonade mixture, leaving 3/4th of the top for blue Curaçao.
- Since the blue Curaçao is so dense we’re going to mix a shot of the citron vodka(1 to 1½ oz) the .5 oz of blue Curaçao so that it floats and doesn’t stink straight to the bottom. Slowly add that to top to get that nice, layered effect.
- Enjoy!
